The Town of Ansonia pays the Nature Center’s building costs and pays for the staff to run the building, but there is not much left over in the budget for education and animal care. Our funds to take care of our animals, buy supplies for our educational classes, and maintain our gardens comes from YOU!
Where Will My Donations Go?

How Can I Help?

We are always in need of supplies to take care of our animals!
Yearly donations provide the flexibility to meet the most pressing needs facing the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center, whether it be animal care, educational equipment, or building renovations. Every gift is needed and appreciated.
Often, family and friends want to help by donating to a cause that was special to a loved one. Your donation will help us foster love for, respect for, and knowledge of the natural world, to not only this generation of children, but to many generations of children to come. Large gifts we receive will be acknowledged with brass placards that state what the donated funds helped make happen.
Sponsor a Species
The Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center cares for many kinds of animals. Some animals are unreleasable due to the nature of their injuries. These animals serve as animal ambassadors, helping us to teach people about the natural world and to foster in people an appreciation of the wild things found all around them.
Our Sponsoring a Species starts as low as $50! The form for Sponsoring a Species can be found here!

Volunteers are the Backbone of Our Organization
The Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center welcomes new volunteers who are willing to help with environmental education, animal care, trail maintenance, mailings, and special events. Volunteers are an essential part of the Nature Center. We work with students from many different schools, helping them to meet their required volunteer hours or to develop their SAE projects. We also provide internship experience for those seeking a college degree. Whether you are a student in high school, or a retired resident of our community, whatever your interest or availability, we offer a variety of exciting opportunities throughout the year. Please note: Individuals under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult while preforming their volunteer hours unless they are enrolled in the Junior Rangers program. More information about the Junior Rangers program can be found here! Please contact us to learn how you can get involved at 203 736-1053 and fill out a volunteer form.
We also welcome organizations looking to help support their community through volunteer work! Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call at (203) 736-1053. We have many on-going projects and would be happy to have your support!
Most of the animals exhibited at the Nature Center are here because they are unable to survive in the wild. Some are domesticated animals that were surrendered by their previous owners, others are injured wild animals that are now unable to hunt or escape from predators.
The cost of caring for wildlife and adopted animals is considerable. All of the animals at the Nature Center need specialized diets, daily care, and creature comforts. You can help to provide food, health care, and housing for the animals—for your favorite feathered, scaly or furry species— through Sponsor a Species.
